If you are building a main account in Old School RuneScape, achievement diaries are one of the highest-ROI account upgrades you can make. The reward space is huge: daily teleports, noted dragon bones, free runes, better Agility XP, and permanent skilling bonuses. But not all 492 tasks are worth your time right now.

This guide ranks the diaries by practical main-account value—taking into account requirements, time to complete, and how often you will actually use the reward—so you can knock out the right tiers early and leave the rest for later.

Who This Guide Is For (and What You Need)

This priority order assumes a normal account that can use the Grand Exchange, has completed enough quests to unlock the relevant areas, and is not an ironman. Ironmen have different constraints because they must gather untradeable items themselves; they should verify individual task requirements on the wiki before committing.

Base requirements for the early rush tiers
  • Agility 15 — enough for the Karamja rope swing and Cairn Isle task, and the Wilderness earth warrior shortcut.
  • Combat level around 50 — comfortably kill an earth warrior under Edgeville without taking heavy damage.
  • Access to Brimhaven and Musa Point — the Karamja diary tasks take place across the island, including the Brimhaven Agility Arena.
  • Ability to handle the Wilderness — the Wilderness diary easy tasks are all in low-level Wilderness, but you should still bank before crossing the ditch.
  • For medium diaries: you will need a Jagex Account or the older RuneScape Authenticator set up, plus various quest completions. Check the wiki for exact quest lists.

If you are missing a few levels, temporary boosts are allowed for most diary tasks unless stated otherwise. The wiki task tables note which requirements can be boosted.

How to Read This Priority List

Open your quest tab and click the green achievement diary icon to see all twelve regions. Each diary has four tiers: easy, medium, hard, and elite. You can complete tasks in any order, but you cannot claim rewards for a tier until all previous tiers of that diary are claimed.

For a main account, the best early diaries give account-wide convenience, daily resources, or significant XP boosts without requiring deep quest chains or high-level PvM. The following table summarizes the rush order described in the sections below.

Karamja Diary: The First Rush

The Karamja Diary was the first diary introduced to the game and remains one of the best early unlocks for a main. Its tasks center on the island of Karamja, including the Kharazi Jungle and the Brimhaven Agility Arena. Rewards are claimed from Pirate Jackie the Fruit in the Brimhaven Agility Arena.

Easy tier is mostly travel and low-level Agility. You will use the rope swing to Moss Giant Island (10 Agility) and explore Cairn Isle (15 Agility). The reward, Karamja gloves 1, halves the cost of the Brimhaven–Ardougne and Musa Point–Port Sarim boat trips from 30 to 15 coins, gives discounts in certain Karamja shops, and grants an antique lamp worth 1,000 experience in any skill at any level. That lamp is more flexible than the standard easy diary lamp and is a great early XP injection.

Medium tier adds Karamja gloves 2, which provide a 10% boost to Agility XP from all obstacles and tickets in the Brimhaven Agility Arena, plus access to the underground portion of the Shilo Village mine. The lamp is worth 5,000 XP in a skill of at least level 30. If you plan to train Agility at Brimhaven, this tier pays for itself quickly.

Hard tier gives Karamja gloves 3: unlimited teleports to the Shilo Village underground mine, extended shop discounts to Jiminua's Jungle Store and the Karamja General Store, and a 10,000 XP lamp. This tier is less urgent unless you frequently mine in Shilo or need the extra shop savings.

Elite tier is powerful but demands much higher stats and PvM. Karamja gloves 4 grant unlimited teleports to Duradel or Kuradal, a 50,000 XP lamp, 10% chance of double Agility arena tickets, free Shilo furnace use, free Hardwood Grove access, free cart rides between Brimhaven and Shilo Village, noted red dragonhide from Brimhaven Dungeon red dragons, noted metal dragon bars, double Tokkul from the Fight Caves, Inferno, and TzHaar-Ket-Rak's Challenges, and a once-per-day full resurrection in the Fight Caves. This is a long-term goal, not an early rush.

Tip: Complete Karamja medium before doing extended Brimhaven Agility sessions. The 10% boost applies to both obstacle XP and ticket XP, making the course more competitive with Seers' Village at certain levels.

Most mains should stop at Karamja medium initially. The hard and elite rewards are excellent for later Slayer, clue scrolls, and money-making at metal dragons, but they require significant time and combat levels.

Wilderness Diary: High Value, Low Effort Early

The Wilderness Diary is unique because every task takes place in the Wilderness, so you must be prepared for player killers at all times. Rewards are claimed from the Lesser Fanatic east of the Edgeville jailhouse, outside the Wilderness.

Easy tier includes killing an earth warrior in the Wilderness beneath Edgeville, which requires 15 Agility to reach the shortcut. The main reward, Wilderness sword 1, always slashes webs, has iron sword stats, grants a 2,500 XP lamp, lets you use the Wilderness lever to teleport to Edgeville instead of Ardougne, and gives you 40 free random runes from Lundail every day. That daily rune supply alone makes this tier a top priority for any account that uses magic.

Medium tier adds Wilderness sword 2: steel sword stats, 7,500 XP lamp, Resource Area entrance reduced to 6,000 coins, ability to hold up to 4 ecumenical keys, 80 free runes daily, access to the crevice shortcut in the Deep Wilderness Dungeon with 46 Agility, access to Callisto, Venenatis, and Vet'ion without a Slayer task, 15% more fallen ents drops, better Rogues' Castle chests, and a 50% drop chance from zombie pirates instead of 15%. If you spend any time in the Wilderness for Slayer, clue scrolls, or bossing, medium is a solid upgrade.

Hard tier gives Wilderness sword 3: mithril sword stats, one daily teleport to the Fountain of Rune, 15,000 XP lamp, Resource Area fee down to 3,750, up to 5 ecumenical keys, ability to sell ecumenical keys for 61,500 coins each to the Lesser Fanatic, 120 free runes daily, 50% more lava shards from grinding lava scales, 67% more loot from Rogues' Castle chests, destination selection on Wilderness obelisks, no 2-tick teleport delay in Revenant Caves and Wilderness boss caves, noted Wine of Zamorak from the Chaos Temple and Deep Wilderness Dungeon, and access to Spindel, Artio, and Calvar'ion. The obelisk selection and noted wines are huge quality-of-life for Wilderness activities.

Elite tier offers Wilderness sword 4: adamant sword stats, unlimited Fountain of Rune teleports, 50,000 XP lamp, free Resource Area access, 200 free runes daily, noted dragon bones from Wilderness dragons (excluding King Black Dragon), and a 112.5% increased catch rate on dark crabs. This is one of the strongest elite diary tiers for Wilderness-focused accounts.

Be ready for PKers: Every Wilderness diary task happens in PvP zone. Bring only what you are willing to lose, and use low-risk gear. Check the wiki task list for safespot locations if you are a lower combat level.

For most mains, Wilderness easy is a no-brainer right after Karamja easy. Medium and hard are worth pushing if you regularly do Wilderness Slayer, bosses, or clue scrolls. Elite is a long-term goal for dedicated Wilderness players.

Other Diaries Worth Early Tiers

After Karamja and Wilderness easy, several other easy tiers provide convenient rewards for low effort. They are not as urgent, but they can be slotted in when you have spare time.

Ardougne easy gives Ardougne cloak 1: unlimited teleports to the Ardougne Monastery, a 2,500 XP lamp, double death runes (200) when trading cats to civilians, 10% increased stall success in Ardougne, and some noted drops at the Tower of Life. The monastery teleport is useful early for questing and clue steps, and the cat death runes can be a passive money maker while you train other skills.

Varrock easy grants Varrock armour 1, which reduces shop prices and provides a daily battlestaff discount that can be flipped on the Grand Exchange. It is a stable small income source for new mains.

Lumbridge & Draynor easy rewards the Explorer's ring, which has run energy restoration and free low-level alchemy charges. The run restore alone is useful for early questing and running around Gielinor.

Falador easy gives Falador shield 1 with a once-per-day 25% Prayer restore, a 2,500 XP lamp, and a shortcut to the Chaos Temple from Burthorpe. The prayer restore is handy before boss fights or Slayer tasks.

What to verify on the wiki: The reward tables in this article are condensed from the wiki. For full task lists including quest and skill requirements, open the Achievement Diary page and filter by diary. Some rewards require the item to be equipped, while others work passively once unlocked.

If you have limited time, focus on Karamja easy, Wilderness easy, and Ardougne easy. Those three give the most account-wide benefits for the least effort.

Time/Cost Tradeoff: What to Defer

Not every diary tier is worth rushing on a main. Hard and elite tiers often require high skill levels, long quest chains, expensive equipment, or dangerous PvM. Before committing, consider what you actually do in game.

  • Karamja hard/elite: Requires combat stats in the 80s or higher for metal dragons and Fight Caves content. The rewards are excellent for Slayer and money-making, but they can wait until you have a solid combat setup.
  • Wilderness medium/hard: Involves deep Wilderness tasks and potential boss kills. If you rarely enter the Wilderness, you can skip these until you need ecumenical keys or noted resources.
  • Ardougne medium/hard: Useful for thieving and Ourania Altar runecrafting, but the tasks demand higher skills and quests. Only rush if you plan to train those skills heavily.
  • Falador medium/hard: The giant mole locator and noted mole parts are nice for pet hunters, but not essential for most mains.
  • Elite diaries generally: These are end-game content with requirements in the 80s and 90s. The 50k XP lamps are tempting, but the time investment is huge.

On a main account, the primary cost is your time, not gp. You can buy most items from the Grand Exchange, but the quest and skill requirements still take hours. Use the diary reward as a goal, not an obstacle.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Even veteran players make these diary mistakes. Avoid them to save time and frustration.

  • Skipping a tier when claiming rewards: You cannot claim a hard reward without first claiming easy and medium. Do not complete a hard task and then wonder why the taskmaster ignores you.
  • Forgetting to claim the reward after finishing a tier: Some players complete tasks but never talk to the taskmaster. The diary tab will show a green checkmark, but you still need to collect the reward.
  • Missing the Karamja Agility Pyramid dialogue: For the hard Karamja task, you must speak to Simon Templeton at the base before climbing, and after reaching the top you must take the golden pyramid and click through the dialogue. If you use the passageway before doing this, the task will not count.
  • Bringing valuable items into the Wilderness: Always bank before Wilderness diary tasks. PKers know these task locations and may camp them.
  • Ignoring daily rewards: Free runes from Lundail, discounted battlestaves, and other daily rewards add up over time. Set a routine to collect them.
  • Not using temporary boosts: Many skill requirements can be boosted with potions or pies. Check the wiki to see if a task allows boosts before training a skill for hours.

Practical Next Step: Your First Diary Session

Here is a concrete, ordered plan for a new main. Complete these in one or two play sessions, then reassess based on your goals.

  1. Do Karamja easy tasks: rope swing to Moss Giant Island, explore Cairn Isle, and any other low-level travel tasks. Claim Karamja gloves 1 and use the 1k XP lamp.
  2. Do Wilderness easy tasks: kill an earth warrior under Edgeville and use the Wilderness lever. Claim Wilderness sword 1 and start collecting your 40 free runes daily.
  3. Do Ardougne easy if you want the monastery teleport and passive death runes. Claim Ardougne cloak 1.
  4. After you have base stats around 50 and a few more quests done, complete Karamja medium for the Brimhaven Agility XP boost.
  5. Evaluate your next goal: if you plan to do Wilderness Slayer or bosses, push Wilderness medium. If you are focusing on skilling or money-making, look at Varrock easy or Lumbridge & Draynor easy.
  6. Revisit hard and elite diaries only when you naturally meet the requirements or need their specific rewards.

Once these early diaries are done, you will notice faster travel, lower costs, and daily income that compounds over the life of your account. The remaining 492 tasks can be tackled at your own pace.

Short on time? If the thought of grinding out all these tasks sounds like a chore, you can browse pre-leveled accounts that already have key diary tiers completed. Browse accounts on our marketplace — but always verify the diary status and account security before buying.

Frequently asked questions

Which OSRS achievement diary should I complete first on a main?

Karamja easy is the best first diary. It takes under 30 minutes, requires only low Agility, and rewards Karamja gloves 1 plus a 1,000 XP lamp usable at any level. The discounted boat trips are useful for early travel.

Is Karamja medium worth doing early?

Yes, especially if you train Agility at Brimhaven. Karamja gloves 2 give a 10% boost to all Brimhaven Agility Arena XP, including tickets. The medium tier also unlocks the underground Shilo Village mine.

What are the best Wilderness diary rewards for a main?

Wilderness easy gives free daily runes and the Edgeville lever teleport. Medium adds extra ecumenical keys and cheaper Resource Area. Hard unlocks obelisk destination selection and noted Wine of Zamorak. Elite provides noted dragon bones and a dark crab catch rate boost.

Can I boost my skills to complete diary tasks?

Most diary tasks allow temporary skill boosts unless stated otherwise. Check the wiki task table for each diary to see which requirements are boostable and which require a base level.

Do achievement diary rewards work without equipping the item?

Some rewards are passive once unlocked, while others require the diary item to be worn. For example, the Ardougne cloak's pickpocketing boost works even if not equipped, but shop discounts often require the item to be worn. Verify on the wiki.

How long does it take to complete all easy diaries?

For a main with reasonable stats and teleports, each easy diary takes roughly 30–60 minutes, so all twelve easy diaries can be done in a few focused sessions. Some, like Karamja and Wilderness, are faster.

Should I buy an account with diaries already completed?

If you value time over the grind, buying a pre-leveled account with key diary tiers can be an option. Always verify the diary progress, account security, and recovery information before purchasing from any marketplace.
